Deputy Sheriff Position Overview
The Deputy Sheriff is a sworn law enforcement officer responsible for enforcing laws, protecting life and property, maintaining public order, and providing professional police services to the DeSoto County community.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Enforce local, state, and federal laws
- Patrol assigned areas to deter and detect criminal activity
- Respond to calls for service, emergencies, and disturbances
- Conduct investigations, collect evidence, and prepare reports
- Make arrests and transport detainees
- Testify in court and provide accurate documentation
- Engage in community policing initiatives
- Maintain patrol vehicle and equipment in safe operating condition
Required Qualifications
Patrol Deputy
- 21 Years of Age
- High School Degree or GED
- U.S. Citizen
- Good Physical Condition
- No Felonies
- Valid Driver's License with clean driving record
- Pass background investigation
- Pass drug screening
- Vision and hearing requirements met
School Resource Officer (SRO)
All Patrol Deputy Requirements plus:
- 3+ years certified law enforcement experience
- Minimum 24 years of age
Compensation & Benefits
Pay Rates
- Uncertified: $50,690.64 (Entry Level)
- Certified: $65,563.68
- Senior Certified: $73,076.64
